1000/10 would recommend!!
I’m not one to leave reviews but my experience at the powder room has been sitting with me for a few days now and as the gel manicure I received begins to fall apart (after less than a week!) I am especially motivated to express my disappointment.
This was my first time visiting (I usually go to Lab and Lounge) and I asked for a simple soak off and gel manicure. The owner, Ms. V, told me that there was a $90 special for gel manicure and pedicure and I said sure. She sets me up with Mary. I got on pretty well with Mary actually. She was extremely patient and kind with me as I sorted out the design I wanted. She seemed new though.
My pedicure was done in lukewarm water with no added soap or bubbles, just plain water. That seemed unusual but since it was a $90 special I figured maybe you didn’t get all the special add ins. Mary just barely did any exfoliating or scrubbing. The shaping and cuticle work on my toe nails was fine though so I didn’t mind. When it comes down to the color I pick a sparkly green. Mary calls over the owner because apparently it’s a special design. I’m not sure why. But sure. She convinces me to choose something else. I get a basic white French tip instead. I ask Mary how much extra that would be and she asks the other nail tech beside her, she tells me about $10 extra. Okay cool. I’m thinking my total will be around $100. No big deal.
At the end of the pedicure. After my toes have dried and I’m getting ready for the manicure. Ms V walks over and says “you know French tips aren’t included in the special” I say “It’ll be extra right?” Assuming the $10 I was told by the techs was correct, I shake my head in agreement.
Fast forward to my manicure. The shop is a lot busier now then when I first walked in. I can tell Ms V and the other techs were pushing to get folks finished as it was nearing 6/7 pm. I sit down with Ms V as Mary tells me since I chose this particular color, only Ms V can do it. It’s a cat eye color. I didn’t realize until clarification by the owner that the polish’s line across the center was a “design” I just thought it was the reflection of the color. I tell the owner I want a blunt half nail color design. She seems obviously annoyed by the idea “oh your shape won’t match that design, are you sure?” I tell yes I am sure. She tries it one nail and ask again if I like it. I say yes I do. She doesn’t seem to happy about my choice but she does my nails (the quickest manicure I’ve ever gotten) in under 10 minutes. The layers are uneven. My nails dry down bumpy. And she rushes to the counter after to input my total while I’m still putting my shoes on.
She leaves another guy at the counter to ring me up and walks away. I go up to the counter and my total says $132. I’m confused but against my better judgement I go with it, I even tip $10 because I genuinely enjoyed Mary.
I check my receipt on the way out and Ms Victoria had charged me for the full manicure and pedicure, no special applied at all. Plus $17 for the pedicure French tip and another $10 for the manicure “design” mind you the design took all of ten minutes and she only had to paint half my nail one color… so she used less polish
I go back in to inquire about what all the pedicures include. The guy at the desk gives me a break down… and I decide to let it go.
It’s been a week now and my manicure is already chipping. No surprise that a ten minute application of gel polish would only last so long. This experience makes me upset that I spent $142 on a set that hasn’t made it past 7 days. Ms V’s dislike of my design choice should not have impacted the quality of her application. If you are looking for quality that lasts (and are already willing to pay upwards of $130) I would highly suggest Lab and Lounge. They have Black nail techs who take their time with their work. They also have a two week guarantee if any chips happen.
