Customer Reviews:
My friend is a DV survivor and has an issue with her hair growing back properly as the result of an attack, so she gets extensions to make her hair appear more full. She had prior gone to another stylist who didn’t install her extensions properly, and my friend was unable/not wanting to return to her. When she went for her appointment, she was very upset because of the state of her hair (grown out, very matted), and her PTSD was very much triggered as she was reminded of how she felt during/following the attack.
She let them know about her attack, and also shared her experiences of the prior stylist with Ella and another stylist – who both concurred that it was some of the worst work they had ever seen. They prompted my friend to take before and after photos and leave a bad review for the other stylist, and spent a lot of time complaining about the job the last stylist had done.
During my friends appointment, she had a medical emergency and had to leave. Ella said that she would reach out to other clients to move their appointments, so my friend could return to have her hair finished. In my opinion, she put on a good display of being very empathetic and accommodating.
While we were at urgent care, my friend got a text from Ella saying that my friend made her uncomfortable and they weren’t a good fit for each other, blocking my friend after rather than giving any kind of constructive feedback – even though my friend promptly apologized for making her uncomfortable.
My friends sister proceeded to reach out to Ella later on, and asked why Ella had done this, because my friend wanted to learn from her mistakes if she was making people uncomfortable…. She was told that the reason Ella was uncomfortable was because she felt my friend was bashing the other stylist, meanwhile I witnessed both Studio VIII stylists encouraging and egging on the negativity throughout our entire visit. It’s unfair to place that kind of blame on someone for something that you yourself were doing.
Not only was my friend experiencing PTSD flashbacks as a result of her prior abuse, but again also experienced the medical emergency. I think their actions and words show a lack of professionalism, as well as a lack of compassion, as they took part in speaking negatively of the other stylist and then kicked my friend while they knew she was down.
While this was a very disheartening experience – it is my hope that Ella will reflect on how her actions impact others, and perhaps she will show future clients who are going through a hard time more grace and care than she showed my friend.
