Title: Not The Best Service and Unprofessional Behavior
I thought long and hard and waited a year to write this review regarding Randy Young at Randy Young Hair Salon on Donnelly in Mount Dora. What made me finally write this was after running into Randy Young at a dinner event and he had the nerve to call me out in front of the entire room regarding negative feedback I had shared in the community regarding him. Then he claimed I used a word I would never have used. How unprofessional. Anyone has the right to share their opinion of a mechanic, doctor, lawyer, hairdresser, etc. Therefore, now I feel compelled to share my experience with him as a hairdresser from a year ago.
My visit to the salon was marred by unprofessional behavior and lackluster service, leaving me thoroughly dissatisfied.
I went to Randy for two years and why I stayed that long, I have no idea. I had my color done every 7 to 8 weeks like clockwork. My color was never the same. Lighter, darker and it always faded fast. And when he did highlights for me one time, they weren’t even close to the scalp. During the middle of this time, I even went to another hairdresser who helped by putting a toner on it to try and even it out. It was at that time I should have never gone back. One time I went in and Randy said, who did your hair because it looked so bad. I looked at him and said you do; to which he made no response.
Furthermore, the entire interaction was marred by an uncomfortable atmosphere. The hairdresser’s demeanor was pompous, anything you talked about he did better or had better. If you asked to get an appointment, he would text you a photo of his appointment calendar in his phone to show you how much he is in demand instead of just assisting in making a new appointment. I don’t care what his appointment calendar looks like and why would you.
Despite his subpar performance, he had the audacity to aggressively demand a greater tip than I had left at the end of my final service with him. I never tipped 20%. First of all, he is the owner of the shop. I pay for my service just like I do to the mechanic, the lawyer the doctor and am not required to leave a tip. When you are the owner of a shop you are not obligated to tip.
He grabbed my $20.00 and shook it within 3 inches of my face and snarled while saying: ‘Is this all you going to give me, for the time I spent on your hair’. He was paid between $225-250 at that appointment for services rendered. By the way, he did not give back the $20 and to which, I took out another $10 and laid it on the counter and walked out. Why is it for him to assume everyone can afford even more than he already charges or the right to demand any amount at all from anyone!
The lack of skill, professionalism, and basic courtesy made my last visit an utterly regrettable one. I would strongly advise anyone considering a visit to this salon to think twice, as the poor quality of service and the audacious demand for tips by the owner are simply unacceptable. Salons are all over Mount Dora, just pick another one.

In response to Mr. Young’s comment. First, everyone at his table and the tables nearby can attest to his outburst. Which already happened the next day, when one person said to me, “I can’t believe he did that”. Secondly, I kept a photo of the text he sent later that night where he said, “I’m not feeling well”.
Yes Mr. Young it is all true.
