The first time I went to go get my nails done, I went to the place in the Dartmouth mall and was unsatisfied so I tried Rainbow Nails instead. The lady that did my nails was very sweet and great with customer service! I asked her if she could use a reference that I liked off of Pinterest for my nails and she agreed to do her best and they turned out (in my opinion) better than the picture with almost the exact same colours! She did an amazing job and I will definitely be going back 🙂 I will put a picture of my nails and the reference that I picked down below. Keep in mind they are getting kind of grown out now since u had them done a few weeks ago now!

I typically do my own nails but I decided to treat myself to the experience of getting someone to do them for me. During the removal of my gel nails the nail techs used a drill and acetone. They drilled down to my natural nails and filed them so thin it burned and I was bleeding. I kept saying how much it hurt and the tech laughed at me. The acetone burned me very badly as I had open wounds. They gave me a gel pedicure and didn’t cure the gel all the way. I ended up having a reaction when I went home and my toenail fell off. I removed my acrylic nails myself and my natural nails are extremely thin to the point my nail beds are red and burn. I can’t touch anything without having severe pain. Please do not go here. This salon is only about how fast they can get you in and out and not about the health of your nails or comfort. Even the person sitting across from me kept asking if I was okay.

Today, I called Rainbow Nails to ask about the price difference between a regular and a shellac pedicure. I was told that a regular pedicure costs $46 and shellac costs $63. I specifically requested regular nail polish. When I arrived, The salon was packed, but I was seated quickly. The woman gave me the book with the nail colour selection and I couldn’t find a colour I liked. I didn’t say anything as I was still looking to find the colour closest to what I wanted, she then brought me the other book of colours without me even asking and chose a colour. It was the worst cleaning I’ve ever had but I stayed quiet and everything seemed fine.
When she finished I went to pay, the machine displayed $63. I explained that I had asked for regular nail polish. The woman who did my nails told me to sit back down so she could redo them with regular polish. I refused, saying I had to leave. Suddenly, every single employee started talking in their language, clearly upset. I could tell they were using inappropriate language towards me.
Another employee approached me and asked how I didn’t know it was shellac. I explained that I hadn’t noticed. Despite my explanation, the employees continued talking over each other, visibly angry, while all the customers watched. I reminded the woman at the front desk that I had specifically requested regular polish when I called earlier. She just replied with a dismissive “yes, yes.”
This was the worst experience I have ever had at a nail salon and not worth the money. I will never step foot in that place again.

Big communication barrier and it’s so important because they don’t really understand what the customer needs. Client handling skill zero. I asked for a basic manicure with polish and they push you for shellac. Injured my skin while using the rotary instrument and chuckled about it when my concern was raised. Never apologized, used the instruments in a hurry, very rough handling, dint have the patience to explain or listen to the customers request or concern. I really think the older Chinese lady who did my nails needs to calm down and change her attitude towards the client as their service is not for free and they are getting paid to do it. Honestly regret going to this place without reading the comments. You can get an excellent nail makeover done for this price at a hygienic, friendly and considerate place. Also the final manicure is a myth , she never even completed the manicure it was just 30 seconds both hands. Done and has thrown the client out of her saloon. They ran out of the colors that I requested. Overall too much of arrogance, extremely rude behavior, in a rush, unhygienic as most of the nail files used wasn’t in a sealed cover.

I have been to Rainbow Nails in the Halifax Shopping Centre multiple times for gel nail extensions and never really had a problem but I will never go again after my last experience with getting nail removal. I went to them to have nail removal done for the first time. I was directed to sit in a chair and the nail tech came over and proceeded to attempt to pry the gel manicure extensions off with an acrylic nail he pulled out of his nail kit. To be clear, he attempted to TEAR the cured gel manicure off my nail bed with an acryclic nail! The pain was unimaginable. I said “HEY THAT HURTS!” and pulled my hand away and he said “Oh, it hurts?”. I said “Can’t you soak it off or something?” and then he switched to buffing it off my nail bed with a buffing nail tool, removing multiple layers and damaging my nails still. They charged me $20 for the pleasure. I suspect they use this brutal method because the proper procedure of soak off nails takes more time, so they are more than happy to damage a client’s nails in order to free up a chair for another victim.
After going on Google to leave a review about my horrible experience, I found out too late that many of the 1 star reviews they have are for destroying people’s nails during acrylic removal. Just search under acrylic nails as the subject/tag.They range from a few months ago to almost a year ago and despite responding promptly with half-hearted apologies and empty promises to review things, they maintain this cruel and inhumane method of nail removal. If you care about your nails, don’t go here!!! Because they certainly don’t!!!
