I was bit by a dog today at this location, while the dog was being trained by a Petco employee. I was shopping for snails in the fish section with my husband and young daughter. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love dogs. But I don’t love being bitten. I noticed the dog was wearing a training vest so I didn’t greet the dog and let them go by, but this dog lunged at me and bit my knee. I don’t fault the dog at all, but I have questions. What are the employees doing training aggressive dogs in a public area? In the fish section? What if the dog had bit my daughter instead? I would be handling this very differently if that were the case.

Five minutes later the employees were practicing recall with a full grown shepherd and running it through the store. It was on leash but it came tearing around the corner right toward my daughter and me. Again, I was in the fish section. Why is dog training happening there? I saw no signs saying training was going on in the store. Don’t they have training rooms or set times? There were elderly people shopping there today too. It was a Sunday at 11 a.m. Shoppers everywhere.

Luckily the dog bite didn’t break skin, otherwise I’d be addressing this with more than just a bad review. Instead, I’ll shop elsewhere. And when my dog needs training, I won’t be bringing him here.

This store is committing animal cruelty and it genuinely seems that their staff could care less and won’t take action. For 7 days the temps and humidity in their reptile tanks have been extremely off. When a tank should be a max of 80 degrees and is reading at 95+ it should be handled immediately.

When you speak to store leadership, like Kylie, you’re told it’s not their area so they can’t help you. They’ve been alerted at least 5 times that this is a problem and have done nothing to solve it. When I spoke with Kylie on Monday and shared these temps could be fatal there was radio silence and when asked what would be done I was told “we don’t have someone for that area so I’m not sure.”

I’ve placed complaints with petco anonymous tip line, their corporate headquarters, Larimer county humane society, I’m genuinely at a loss for what to do at this point but want others aware of who they’re supporting.

Waited over 30 minutes for help in aquatics while the employee stood around talking to a friend the whole time. Asked the cashier to please page someone to help in aquatics, still nothing. The store is filthy and ran by people with no work ethics. I worked for that company in my early 20s and it’s gone downhill tremendously. I won’t be giving them anymore business. Stick to private owned pet stores.

Luckily Petco was open late-ish. My 3 yr old son and I were able to get the dog food we needed. We came to Fort Collins CO from northern Wyoming to visit family. The staff was friendly enough though they all seemed spent from the long day. The store was well lit, did not smell like a swamp near the reptiles, fish, etc. And overall the store had no foul odors that I could detect. The isles were clear and easy to navigate. All in all it was a pleasant experience.
