Customer Reviews:
When I made my appointment, I made sure to specify over the phone that I needed simple maintenance on my pixie cut and that I needed a hairstylist who is specifically experienced with short hair like mine. The lady on the phone told me this wouldn’t be a problem.
The day of the appointment comes, and I am excited. I have been to New Look before because that is where I found my reliable stylist who I followed over to her new business a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, she moved out of state, and I am now in the process of trying to find a new stylist… So, I decided to return to New Look.
The appointment with Angelica started off really well. I explained to her how I like to style my hair, what needed to be done, and I showed her pictures of my past cuts to help her get an idea of what I wanted. I made sure to tell her that the “femininity” of my haircut is important to me, because I like the features to be “cutesy” and rounded. I also have a side shave that needs to be maintained and I explained to her how short it should go. She started off working on the side shave and I thought she did a great job of getting the particular length that I wanted. She made a point of telling me that she is a very “cautious stylist” and that she prefers to take the hair down slowly and check in with the client throughout because “you can always cut more off, but you can’t add it back on”. I let her know that I appreciated this.
We kept talking and she was very pleasant. I let her know that I was going on an out-of-state vacation in just a couple of days, so I was excited to have my hair trimmed up again so I could look cute for the trip. When it came time to trim my bangs, I let her know that I style them “swooped” off to the side, and that my bangs can’t be cut any shorter than my eyebrows or else they are too short. She said, “okay cool” and then proceeded to pull my bangs taught and cut them STRAIGHT ACROSS at my eyebrow line… When I opened my eyes, I was horrified.
She had given me “bowl cut bangs” on a pixie cut – as if she’s never seen a pixie cut in her life. I thought it was probably just a “trust the process” type situation and I just must not understand because I’ve only seen a single hairstylist for so long. However, after quite some time, it did not get any better. She asked me if I would like to her “even them up” some more or if they looked good. I calmly let her know that my bangs are not supposed to be even, they’re supposed to be textured like the photos I showed her. She seemed surprised by this and said “oh…” From this point forward, she was no longer friendly with me. She went completely quiet, except for humming like it was “no big deal” while I sat there quietly panicking. She tried to “fix it” by just straightening my bangs and combing them flat. I could tell by watching her that she herself had no idea how to style this cut now that it was done. Everything about her movements became uncertain. She finally quietly gave up on my bangs and let me know she was going to finish up by squaring off the back. I stopped her and reiterated that my back needed to be rounded to keep the girliness. She seemed surprised by this too, like it was unexpected. She said, “let me fix that up and get you out of here”. She rushed to finish my cut and get me out of the chair.
At the pay counter, she was even more cold with me. I was trying to hold it together and kept quiet. She got snippy with me because my card wasn’t the “tap to pay” kind. When she ran my card, she threw the phone up on the counter for a tip and then immediately turned around and walked away.
I am absolutely shocked by Angelica’s total incompetence. Rather than trying to help me once she realized there was an issue, she became completely unfriendly and cold. Absolutely terrible customer service and overall inability to listen. I can’t believe I am going to have to spend my vacation with this haircut. I pray no one else with short hair finds themself in Angelica’s chair.
Angelica did this! She is clearly extremely talented. It takes skill and interest in your client to produce these kinds of results.
I went in as a walk in. I told her it had to go. I showed her a picture. And away we went. Cut, color, style, and two weeks later…
Price?? Phenomenal. Less than I expected by enough to get some professional products to help take care of it.
Thank you so much Angelica and Newlook Hair Salon!!
