I have a personal love for this place but it’s definitely in need of attention from lots of agencies. From a state park perspective it’s reasonable the staff do above and beyond with what they are given to work with. The location makes or breaks it depending on your needs and wants. If you want a true isolated experience you can definitely do that. But if your looking for amenities close by it’s definitely limited. Where things are truly lacking is from funding and seasonal fluctuations. I’ve never had a bad time here and this place is close to my heart this is why I’m saddened by the disrepair of some areas. However where the park shines is the vast array of things to do from all walks of life. This time out was nice because it was my 2 younger kids first camping trip with fishing and recreational water sports at Conchas. Nothing but good times. The only part was going home.

This park is really remote, you’ll probably lose service on your devices on the way there, but it’s a really pretty place, and you can still see wild life walking through the park if you’re quiet enough.
The bathrooms were closed by.
It was really peaceful.
Watch out for deer pebbles.

It was beautiful weekend when we went. the new mexico state parks were there daily cleaning up after people. They don’t bother you they just wave with a friendly smile.

Beautiful lake and camp grounds. We will definitely be going there again. The only problem was the tarantulas. One of our chihuahuas was bitten, and we spent the weekend giving her benadryl every 4 hours. It was also difficult to get down to the water for bank fishing. The deer coming into the camp Saturday evening was a wonderful surprise.

Nice clean lake with good fishing. The water used to be higher, but still plenty of room to roam today. Bring what you need cause there’s not much for shopping locally to the lake. Will be staying longer next time.
