Some back story: my daughter has a terminal rare disease called TUBB4A Leukodystrophy.

Diagnosis grief ebbs and flows with a diagnosis like we received with my daughter and over the last month, with so much instability, it has weighed heavy. But God shows up in mysterious ways.

I hadn’t gotten my nails touched up since before my DC visit two months and while miraculously all had stayed on— I was embarrassed to show up to the salon with the lack of maintenance worrying about facing judgment.

I went to Cal Pro Nails in Carbondale — and while getting my nails serviced the co-founder of my non-profit was called to talk about some Kinslow tubb4a Foundation initiatives and hospitals currently caring for our TUBB4A kids.

Having overheard pieces of our conversation, I struck up a subsequent conversation with my nail lady who also happened to be the owner. She listened attentively and asked questions about Harlow, her diagnosis having no current treatment or cures, and we are trying to do via the nonprofit.

At the end of the service she handed me a check for the Kinslow foundation and I broke into tears. So many wonderful people exist in this world that care about our kids. She didn’t know me. She had never done my nails before tonight. Her big heart and caring gesture lifted me up and reminded me that God shows up at the most unexpected times and in the most unexpected ways.

If you are in Southern Illinois and need your nails done— please give them your business. I can attest to the quality of their work since my nails stayed on over 8 weeks post fill and that they truly care about their customers.

Grossly overpriced. Won’t be returning. I didn’t even get ANY polish at all (letting my nails breath and heal and grow out again) and was charged $80 for a mani pedi – I would’ve paid $80 for a mani pedi WITH GEL polish on both fingers AND toes at my last shop. So after tipping – I’m out $100. No thank you… wasn’t worth it to me. The stars I gave was for the man who gave me the pedicure. He gives a great foot massage.

Worst manicure experience ever. The guy doing my nails did not fully remove my old nail polish and proceeded to laugh at my nails. Very snarky under tones from the staff working there for the entire duration of my manicure. I could tell he was talking about me to the other workers. I got the dip powder on my nails expecting that they wouldn’t use the light to cure the nail since in the past, that is how it has been. He pulled out the light and I questioned him about it since I’m not a fan of having my hands exposed to that type of light. After explaining to me that they always do that for dip, which again, has never been the case all of the times I’ve been there prior, he shook his head and laughed. I’ll never be going back.

This is my 3rd time going, not going there again. First time I got pedi and dip manicure. Pedi was done by Mama Lee both on my first and third visit and the quality (or lack of) was consistent on both visits. Cuticles have not been taken care of and the nail polish has been poorly put on. She put the clear top coat on surrounding skin as well. The first dip was done so-so. I do not recall the name of the gentleman that did then. He was rushed and laid them on thick. The second time I went was to get the dip done again. I also do not recall the name of this guy, but he’s the only one that allowed me to give any kind of starts. He did the dip spot on! Perfect.

Strongly do not recommend getting pedicures there in general. Getting anything hands related will be hit or miss depending on who you get.

Not only did they have me there for 3 1/2 hrs after being told a 45 minute wait 😭 but look at the rhinestone design on top of the nails coat not being even except on the pinky. Lordt I can’t lie this was my worst nail experience ever. I mean a discount would’ve been nice but that wouldn’t have did much. Whole day gone. They were kind of nice tho.
